Introduction and Welcome to the 2024 Body + Breath Challenge

Welcome!

Dear Reader,

Tomorrow we kick off the body and breath challenge! For the next 35 days, we'll explore what is central to your music-making, the foundation of YOU.

Whether you’re a Thriver, a returning participant, or if you’re new, we are delighted you’re here.

Throughout this challenge, you’ll be invited to:

  • try methods of breathwork
  • investigate movement
  • make connections about what it means to use your body as an artistic instrument
  • discover body awareness and the various mobility options the body has
  • deepen the connection between mind and body

As we move through the main topic of each week, the path laid before you is simple (see the instructions below). You'll also be invited to connect with your fellow challengers, be proactive with questions and engagements, and *something* every day (via the trackers and worksheets)!

How this works:

  • Open the emails on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and click the link to log in read or listen
  • Download the PDF resources and get rockin’ on the action - and be sure to print out the trackers that come on Mondays!
  • Speaking of those… each Monday you’ll get a new tracker, with prompts encouraging you to take action on the weekly topic
  • Pay attention to your “ACTION STEPS” in each lesson, written at the bottom of the lesson description
  • Use your Musician’s planner to journal this challenge if you have one :) As a B&B participant, you get 20% off with code “TC23” if you’d like to grab one!
  • Join the Monday Meetups to get additional supporting topics, connect with other Challengers, share your work, ask questions and more. Let's bring the 🎉 and the good energy to that group!

It’s that simple!

So, get a good night sleep (so essential for body and breath) and we’ll see ya tomorrow!

Ixi, Nick & Ted

Ever considered the question - are you a glass half full or glass half empty type of person? It's a common parable pointing to your tendency toward being an optimist or pessimist in life: people with a positive outlook on life are said to look at the glass as being half full, and those with a negative outlook see the glass as being half empty. How do you see the glass? Half-full! Half-empty. The point is that it’s your perspective, not the facts of life, that determines your reaction to life...

Last night we went out for a meal with the family, which is rare these days because one, we're usually wiped by Sunday night and just all want to stay in; and two, usually someone has youth ensemble, theater, or a game. We went to an Asian street food place and gorged on okonomiyaki, spicy noodles, and curry rice. And laughed, talked about football (to which I contributed zero thoughts), recapped our days, and enjoyed talking face-to-face (instead of texting). But then on the way home, my son...

Hello! It's Citlalmina here today 👋🏼 ...The leaves are changing colors in Cincinnati, fall vibes are here (hello, pumpkin spice everything, everywhere) and now school is feeling more settled. So, I'm curious how many of you are planning a performance, project or recital, either for school or on your own? In one of my arts admin classes this semester, we're reading a book called The Art of Relevance by Nina Simon . I am especially captivated by the idea of truly capturing what's relevant for...
