Introduction and Welcome to the 2024 Body + Breath Challenge

Welcome!

Dear Reader,

Tomorrow we kick off the body and breath challenge! For the next 35 days, we'll explore what is central to your music-making, the foundation of YOU.

Whether you’re a Thriver, a returning participant, or if you’re new, we are delighted you’re here.

Throughout this challenge, you’ll be invited to:

  • try methods of breathwork
  • investigate movement
  • make connections about what it means to use your body as an artistic instrument
  • discover body awareness and the various mobility options the body has
  • deepen the connection between mind and body

As we move through the main topic of each week, the path laid before you is simple (see the instructions below). You'll also be invited to connect with your fellow challengers, be proactive with questions and engagements, and *something* every day (via the trackers and worksheets)!

How this works:

  • Open the emails on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and click the link to log in read or listen
  • Download the PDF resources and get rockin’ on the action - and be sure to print out the trackers that come on Mondays!
  • Speaking of those… each Monday you’ll get a new tracker, with prompts encouraging you to take action on the weekly topic
  • Pay attention to your “ACTION STEPS” in each lesson, written at the bottom of the lesson description
  • Use your Musician’s planner to journal this challenge if you have one :) As a B&B participant, you get 20% off with code “TC23” if you’d like to grab one!
  • Join the Monday Meetups to get additional supporting topics, connect with other Challengers, share your work, ask questions and more. Let's bring the 🎉 and the good energy to that group!

It’s that simple!

So, get a good night sleep (so essential for body and breath) and we’ll see ya tomorrow!

Ixi, Nick & Ted

I was 16 years old. Off to spend four weeks at the Chautauqua Institution high school orchestra. I remember so well the nervous and excited arrival gave way to endless days slipping between music-making and friend-making (and buffalo wings). The dining hall. The lake. The practice rooms. Noticing how good the orchestra was. And how, on the last night, we stayed up on the dock together reliving the last notes of Tchaikovsky 5. I'm still in touch with many of the friends from that summer,...

A powerful chestnut racehorse named "Redemption" wearing number 7 crosses the finish line in first place, its jockey celebrating wildly. In the background, other horses lag behind as a massive, roaring crowd cheers beneath a large stadium scoreboard that

I was a student at the Aspen Music Festival for four summers. I loved that place. I couldn't get enough of the mountains, the energy of my studio, lessons with my teacher Joaquin Valdepeñas, and the incredible music-making. During my first summer though, I placed 19th out of 25 in the screened placement auditions. I remember walking up to the posted results, scanning for my number, and walking away feeling completely disheartened. My first screened audition :( But as the festival went on,...

Hey Reader A couple of weeks ago I had the honor of being on the Fearless Artist Podcast, and having a terrific conversation with pianist and co-founder, Michelle Lynne. Some of you might remember her as 2025 guest speaker here at 360! Within the first few minutes, we were already into it deep. With our shared commitment to the success of music professionals, and knowing that there's often so much uncertainty and self-doubt, I wanted to share one powerful reminder. It's for ALL of us,...
